DIGITAL KNEE TO REVOLUTIONIZE RECOVERY OBTAINS FDA CLEARANCE

PRESS RELEASE

Medical device company OPUM Technologies have secured FDA clearance and are poised to disrupt traditional knee recovery with their Digital Knee®.

The revolutionary digital rehabilitation platform also received reimbursement verification and is now in the pre-release phase with selected orthopaedic centres. Clinical trials are in progress with partners at leading international institutions.

Their Digital Knee®, a modular knee orthotic range, works by connecting to their data/AI-platform known as OPUM LabTM in a bid to aid diagnosis and therapy, reduce costs and improve patient outcomes.

The two-part design consists of the Digital Knee®, a wearable brace line suitable for all stages of knee health, which works in conjunction with their mobile app. Together they form a platform which observes a patient’s movements allowing surgeons to offer additional remote patient monitoring services and ultimately work to increase patient satisfaction.

Born out of a large research program at The University of Auckland the Digital Knee® provides real-time data, automated rehabilitation plans and connects patients with their clinical care team. Added to that the Digital Knee® will work to help identify risk cases early and provide objective data for surgical prescription, ultimately aiding return to sport and managing long term health.

Founder and CEO Andrew McDaid says he hopes the venture backed company’s Digital Knee® will streamline recovery for patients globally.
“We’re really excited to be building a technology that will provide significant care efficiencies and ultimately reinvent the way people recover from injury,” he says.

OPUM technology received funding and commercialization support under Callaghan Innovation’s Technology Incubator programme with WNT Ventures, Pacific Channel, UniServices and NZVIF.
