Digital Knee® Sensor

The Digital Knee® is a continuous remote goniometer which seamlessly “clips-on” to wearables - therapeutic braces for post-surgery, offloading for knee OA, soft sleeves or used as a standalone goniometer when bracing is not needed such as post knee replacement.

The sensor itself is accurate to less than 1 degree, requires no calibration and is intuitive for a patient at home. The extendable goniometer arm design and strategic sensor location, anatomically aligned on the affected limb ensures the measurements are less susceptible than patch sensors to “noisy data” and errors due to skin movements especially in patients with excess soft tissue. Unlike patch sensors, the Digital Knee does not use skin adhesive which can be a cause of irritation and infection for sensitive skin.

The accuracy, reliability and usability of the Digital Knee® assessments has been validated in peer-reviewed papers. For example ACL patients used the device for six weeks post-surgery with maximum group knee flexion 1° different between an in-clinic goniometer and remote Digital Knee® assessment. Compliance with the Digital Knee® assessment over 6 weeks was also high at 79%.

Digital Knee® Software

my Digital Knee®

An iOS and Android patient-facing app provides engagement, insights and education to patients. Our research has shown your patients will benefit from a more connected care experience, resulting in better motivation, engagement and program adherence.

Digital Knee® Lab & Provider Portal

The Digital Knee® Lab is the brains of the solution, processing data from the sensor to provide insights to a patient’s mobile app and clinical teams via a web portal.

Digital Knee® portal makes every aspect of implementing remote patient monitoring effortless. Proprietary algorithms and notifications tell you how patients are progressing and help you perform assessments that can assist to inform clinical decisions. All providers in the continuum of care are empowered to collaborate in supporting each patient.

OPUM’s flexible protocols allow clinicians to easily design and prescribe personalized care that includes monitoring of therapy, bracing as well as patient progresses towards their goals. OPUM’s self-service portal outputs printable patient-friendly clinical data reports to help facilitate discussion on progress and treatment options

Digital Knee® - The Orthopedic Data Standard

The Digital Knee® ecosystem is built around a goniometer-based sensor and the Digital Knee® Twin, a clinical data standard designed specifically for the knee health. A Digital Knee® Twin is a digital representation of a patients real knee which incorporates clinical data across four categories to build a holistic clinical picture of knee health;

  • Anatomy: Active and passive terminal knee flexion / extension to within 1°

  • Function: Gait analysis incl. functional knee and hip ROM and spatiotemporal parameters such as stride length, speed & cadence

  • Activity: Daily living and posture recognition using AI algorithms as well as adherence to surgical and rehab protocols

  • Symptoms: Based on gold standard patient reported outcomes such as KOOS and pain scores

Studies have validated the accuracy and reliability of the Digital Knee in the real world. Physicians can now trust remote data to make clinical decisions, identify at-risk cases and determine follow-up necessity clinic efficiencies.

Supporting existing clinic workflows and traditional care pathways

Its simple to add Digital Knee® to your practice without disruption. RPM insights can be used as much or little as you are comfortable with. As you gain experience the data becomes more embedded in supporting workflows and optimizing traditional care pathways

  • Consultations: Printable reports used during scheduled encounters

  • Telehealth: Objective data used for more interactive telehealth consultations

  • Caseload management: Notifications enable early detection and intervention to improve clinical outcomes

  • Expedited intake: In-app questionnaires optimize consultation time and reduce forms in waiting room

  • Triage: Digital twin to identify appropriateness of specific intervention pathways to optimize outcomes and patient costs
